Binaural beats are unique "auditory artifacts" that are "heard" in the brain only. It has been shown that binaural beats can alter the dominant brainwave frequency of the mind in a process called frequency follows response. By altering ones brainwave frequencies one may effectively go into what has been labeled as an alpha, theta, or delta state. Each brain state has been associated with a different state of consciousness, for example; generally the alpha state is associated with relaxation and calmness, and delta is associated with healing deep sleep.
There are many uses for binaural beats, one of them being healing. It has been shown that the body is highly capable of healing itself. More and more research shows that there is a link between stress and an unhealthy body. One of the many applications of binaural beats is to deeply relax the body and mind, through this process the mind and body have a chance to heal itself. Binaural beats have also been shown affective with many psychosomatic illness like depression.
Binaural beats are produced when two tones of slightly different frequencies are played separately in each ear. When the brain comes into contact with two slightly different tones a binaural beat is produced that is the average and difference between the two original tones. For example, a 100 Hz tone and a 110 Hz tone will form a 105 Hz tone pulsating 10 times per second. One may effectively "hear" a binaural beat, with the aid of stereo headphones, by playing two similar tones in each ear. By altering the tone in each ear a new binaural beat may be heard.
Binaural beats can be used to change the predominant brain wave frequency in a process called brain wave entrainment. It has been said that by changing the predominant brain wave frequency of the brain one may feel any number of effects including:
I have been meditating with binaural beats off and on for the past year and I have found that when I meditate with binaural beats I am able to go "deeper" in my meditation much faster. Binaural beats do actually work! Each person is affected by binaural beats differently; some people quickly notice the effects of binaural beats while some take a little longer to feel the effects. Honestly I haven't met a person yet who hasn't been presently surprised at the power of binaural beats.
Yes. Binaural beats can be very helpful in getting into deep meditative states.
I get asked this question quite a lot actually, and it really depends on your own beliefs. I find binaural beats to be extremely effective for me and do not place any judgments on my method. I treat this technology as just one tool in my meditation toolbox. I can choose to meditate with binaural beats whenever I like. In fact the more I use binaural beats the more I don't need to use them. After some time of using them I find that I am able to go into the same brain states without using the binaural beats that I used to achieve with them. Binaural beats have a nice property of being anti-habit forming; meaning that the more one uses binaural beats in meditation the more one doesn't need to use them.

Binaural-Beats.com
- This group is famous for the "Digital Drug" preset
Hemi-Sync
- Is probably the oldest and most well known binaural beat company around.
HoloSync
- This group is easily the best known in the world of binaural beats. Even though I find them expensive, many swear by their unique program. You tell me.
Quantum Mind Power
- This group uses isochronic tones over of binaural beats to achieve brain entrainment. Isochronic tones are supposedly more effective. In my experience I have found these tones more effective, though a bit harder to meditate to for longer periods. If you are looking for some quick entrainment, I highly recommend this group.
Optimindzation
- Another group that uses isochronic tones over binaural beats. If you need isochronic entrainment then choose one of these two groups as they are the only ones on the market right now that produce entrainment through this technology. I recommend Quantum Mind Power, but many people tell me they like Optimindzation more. Best to try them both and decide yourself. Both groups produce very high quality isochronic tones.
