mp3 down loads

Postby freeezo on Thu Mar 27, 2008 5:48 pm

All,
does anyone have an opinion on if using the beats from an mp3 download cause a noticible diffrence-loss in effect over cd etc? Thanks in advance

If the MP3 has been properly made, it should work without problems (this is what I've heard). However, I have done my own .flac files for the stuff Wayne has made so I have the best, lossless quality.

I'm rather new at this, but I've been playing with lame to convert the out.wav files generated by sbagen to mp3's. The output seems to be very good. The string that I use is as follows:

>lame -h -V 6 <out>.wav <new>.mp3

The -V 6 encodes using variable rates which adjust automatically to the input. Though I'm no expert at audio output, the resulting mp3s seem every bit as good as those that I've down loaded, with no noticable clipping.

>lame can also receive its input directly from sbagen using raw format, but I haven't tried that yet.

Hope this helps,

Amparo

You need to set the mode correctly. Don't use joint stereo! I have no access to my main system (graphics card went kaput) so I can not check the exact parameters at the moment. Look into its manpage.

i convert the out.wav to mp3 using Absolute MP3 Splitter.
Go to YouTube and search for "drg to mp3".
it's got a load about getting an iDoser .drg to .sbg then to .wav, but just look at the last part about converting to mp3. is what he does ok?

Advanced MP3 Splitter
Frequency (HZ) 44100
320kbps
Dual Channels
VBR enabled
Max Bitrate 320kbps
Quality 9 (i dont know if 9 is best or 1 is best, does any one know?)

0 is the best one in lame.

-q 0:
use slowest & best possible version of all algorithms. -q 0 and -q 1 are slow and may not produce significantly higher quality.

There is a decent article here http://www.binauralbeatsonline.com/bina ... ersus-cds/ that may be helpful regarding using mp3's versus cd's.
