Strange physical sensations

Postby rr00rr on Mon Mar 30, 2009 9:10 pm

I've a skeptical type when it comes to many things, but I've been using binaural beats for several months in order to help with sleep or relaxation. Recently, though, in the past two weeks or so, I've been experiencing odd sensations that I wanted to comment on. I've never felt such things before. Some of this has been triggered with isochronic tones:

After starting the music and relaxing/settling in, the first thing I notice is fluttering in my eyelids. I then try to focus on the sounds and calm my mind.

Sometimes my mind might drift and I lose awareness of the sound. I'm daydreaming about something. Suddenly though, my attention is snapped back to the sound, and then I usually find myself in a state where I'm noticing those strange physical sensations. Here are some examples:

1- I notice an odd pulsing in my forehead, between my eyes. Usually this is synchronized with an isochronic tone (this might be sympathetic to the pulsing eyelids.)

2- Same thing with my hands, legs, and sometimes groin area. I definitely feel a very slight "jitter" in my body, again, it's usually synchronized with a pulsing tone.

3- Oddly, sometimes I feel my right hand "oscillate." It's a different sensation as the nervous jitter mentioned in #2. This is more of a feeling of a slow rotation in the hand, almost the same motion as if drawing a letter "O" on paper.

The first few times I experienced such things it was frightening. I was worried about having a seizure or some other harmful event. So far, though, these symptoms seem to be benign.

When these things happen, once the audio stops (after about 30-40 mins.,) I am in an extremely relaxed/peaceful state of mind. I'm an athlete, and this feeling is most like a "runner's high," except without the high. It's just a very energized, relaxed, aware type of feeling.

I hope I'm not sounding like a quack, but I'm writing because I'm curious about understanding this. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

i think these are mild OBE (out of body experience) symptoms. If u want to go through a OBE or astral project yourself then you shouldnt tense up. according to what i've read you should let the jitters and stuff overcome you almost like vibrations. u should relax. But if u feel weirded out or something then you should probabely alert yourself and make sure you dont get 2 comfortable when listing 2 BB's.

Yep your definitely a quack.. But aren't we all.

It's funny because this describes exactly beyond perfect what I experienced my first time using binaural beats. I absolutely loved it but I had already read about it many times from studying astral projection (OBE) so I knew what I was experiencing.

Now I experience this all the time using binaural beats. Usually after I stop listening to them and get up the vibrations will come and go in waves lasting almost 30 minutes and my eyes will continue to flutter for the next 5 min.

The worst thing you can do is get tense and fearful of the experience. Don't worry it's completely natural just ride with it. With practice you can actually control these vibrations make them rise to your head and down to your feet.

Yes I too have felt similar sensations of eye fluttering, I assumed it had something to do with the minor hallucinations I was having in my head as a result of rapid eye movement so I wasnt really bothered by it. I cannot remember what frequency I was listening too, but I saw brief images, such as an undefined face yelling at me. Also whithin the first couple of minutes listening to this binaural beat I felt a strange light "punch" in my thigh that caused me to reflex in my leg. It was strange and I found out that my roomate, who had been listening to the same beat simultaneously with me, had experienced the exact same sensation around the same time. Has anyone else ever felt physical sensations of contact, as in feeling like someone else touches you in someway?
