How to listen beats ? Listenning tutorial ?

Postby Private on Mon May 10, 2010 10:31 pm

Hi :)

I'm new to binaural beats.

I use to listen beats from this forum for 2 weeks, but nothing happens :( , except funny feelings at the top of the head during an Euphoria beats session.
I searched on the forum, and on Google, but I did'nt find anything really helpfull on listenning tutorial.

So I wonder if you'd have advices for me, such as :
- are there frequencies or beats easier for newbies ?
- what to focus on ? beats ? or sometimes, I can here the 2 frequencies together like a chord. Should I have to focus ont that chord ? Should I have to focus on nothing ?
- Should I have to put the volum loud, or low ?

Are there people whot succeed after such a bad start like mine .

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad english.

Alpha is a good range to start with. Do not experiment with too many frequencies at a time. Stick with a range for at least a few weeks.

Focusing on beats/carrier frequencies is not necessary, if however it helps you relax, do so. Taking your mind off external thoughts helps you relax and entrain better.

Listen with a low volume, as binaural beats maintain their effectiveness even at low volume levels.

It is difficult to quantify "success". However, binaural beats are know to take time to show effect, so give it a month or two.

Thank you mgpai :D
I have another question
Is it easier with noises (pink or white noise, for instance), or with just pure beats ?

It's a matter of personal preference. Go with whichever is aesthetically more pleasing to you. It is only important that the amplitude of binaural beats are slightly above the background noise/music.

I agree with all your other stuff Mgpai, but still don't understand the part about the amplitude of the BB's being louder than the background noise. After all, in the classic Monroe preset the amplitude of the BB's appear to be LESS than the sound of the white noise (I think it's white noise) that they use as a background for much of it...even in the rain forest presets the make, the rain and stuff is louder than the BB (you can barely perceive the BB in fact). I don't know I just think that the binaural beat needs to be perceptible (even if only barely so) and as long as the amplitude of the background doesn't interfere for any significant length of time (like more than a second or two here and there) with the perception of the BB then it should be ok, what do you think?

Binaural beats can have a higher amplitude than the background noise, and yet be barely audible. This is because of the way in which our ears perceive the loudness of a sound (Equal-loudness contour).

Amplitude setting used by "Monroe", as per "Focus.txt" of SBaGen, is 20 dB above background noise. I have analyzed many of their tracks and found it to be so. In many instances they are 40 dB higher than the background noise/music.

The optimum setting perhaps can be better explained with an example. In the attached file, "Sample.mp3", you can see that the amplitude of binaural beats frequencies are about 10 dB higher, i.e. twice as loud as the white noise used for background, yet our ears do not perceive it to be so, for the above mentioned reasons.

Peak frequencies marked in the circle are BB frequencies of 98 Hz and 102 Hz.
